Zilker Park

Zilker Park - a 360-acre urban jewel. Andrew Jackson Zilker, who arrived in the city penniless, donated the Springs and surrounding land in 1917. The Zilker Botanical Gardens feature 22 acres of rose, butterfly and Oriental   gardens. Summer musicals are staged at the Hillside Theater; the Trail of Lights is an annual Christmas production. The new Sheffield Education Center includes Splash! Into The Edwards Aquifer exhibit. The Austin Nature & Sceince Center has hands-on ehibits, interactive nature & science trails and live Texas wildlife. Adjacent to the park is the Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum. The work is by the late Charles Umlauf, art professor at the University of Texas. One of his subjects, depicted as a young woman with tousled hair, is actress Farah Fawcett, at the time one of Umlauf's student assistants.
