The Manned Spacecraft Center, opened in 1963, contains 100 buildings to develop spacecraft, train astronauts, and control space missions. Renamed in honor of President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1973, the Center is open for tours featuring moon rocks, space suits and the Mercury and Apollo spacecraft. In 1992, Space Center Houston was opened to serve as a Visitor Center. The educational and entertainment facility was designed by NASA and Walt Disney Imagineering. It features interactive exhibits, space modules, shuttle-landing simulators, lunar rock vaults and space-related games. The complex draws 1.5 million visitors each year.
