La Porte: San Jacinto Texas Independence 5K Fun Run/Walk
The San Jacinto Museum of History will hold its first “San Jacinto Texas Independence Fun Run/Walk” on Saturday, March 3, 2012 on a 5K-certified course on the grounds of the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Park.
This event's proceeds will benefit the San Jacinto Museum of History's educational programs, with the goal to maintain half-price tickets for school groups. The “historic” race will start at the base of the San Jacinto Monument and will pass by the Battleship Texas, the Texian Camp and the Mexican Camp and finally end at the Monument.
The timed run starts at 7:30 a.m. with timing equipment. Online registration is available now by clicking here.
Cost of the fun run is $25 pre-registration through noon, March 1; after that it is $35. Packet pickup and onsite pre-registration occurs Thursday and Friday, March 1 and March 2, from 12:30 to 6 p.m. at the kiosk in the lobby of the San Jacinto Monument, One Monument Circle, La Porte, Texas. Race day registration is from 6 - 7:15 a.m.
Organizers will offer awards for one overall winner for both men & women 1st, 2nd & 3rd place in all age groups in 10-year divisions. All participants will receive a free t-shirt and water on the course, as well as a post-race party with refreshments.
