WHY NOT EXPLORE SAN ANTONIO'S UNDERGROUND?
At least 2 major caverns are within a short drive from San Antonio in an area honeycombed with limestone caves. The Balcones Fault, stretching along IH 35 between Austin and San Antonio, marks the barrier between rich farmland to the east and rugged limestone hills to the west. Vast networks of open spaces lie beneath these hills. Each cave offers an amazing variety of beautiful speleothems (rock formations), fossils, and history. Two to visit are:
NATURAL BRIDGE CAVERNS, (San Antonio), a vast subterranean maze, takes visitors on a 75 minute guided tour 180 feet below the surface through 1/2 miles of gigantic underground rooms in the North Cavern.
